Building a Declarative Pipeline

Building a Declarative Pipeline
Oct 21, 2020 | 2 minute read

One of the primary focuses Ashpool has when building tools is reducing friction especially surrounding admin work as that lends itself to automation.

We’ve found that many tools that approach these issues end up creating additional admin work by way of managing the automation tooling. In order to create a highly efficient process, we needed a better approach.

Defining ‘Declarative’

When setting up your automation process you typically need to first define what the process looks like, then figure out how to connect all those pieces together.

For example you may have a regular set of criteria which sets who you’ll reach out to over the next quarter (what) so you run a search with that criteria and move the results into a list (how).

In Ashpool you would simply have a list which is defined by that criteria. It is always up to date and you never have to refresh it.

In other words, you only define what you want, not how to get it, Ashpool will handle the logistics.

How does this save me time?

This may initially seem like a minor improvement, you may consider one place or another where this only saves maybe a single click. Where this approach really shines is the lack of troubleshooting that needs to happen.

Where this approach really shines is the lack of troubleshooting. The goal is to function like lego bricks, piecing everything together quite simply.

It is still possible that is not particularly useful or provide the results wanted, but it will always output exactly what is requested.

During setup this also significantly reduces the amount of work needed. There is no process to establish after defining the parameters.

Why would I want to use this approach?

For anyone who is building lists, establishing segments, setting up sequences, or defining personas the benefits will come in the form of a simplified process.

Do note however that there is still fine grain manual control over these lists, for example you can still manually add or remove prospects from dynamic lists

Summary

The declarative approach may seem a little foreign at first but should provide a huge efficiency boost to your prospecting, marketing, or other outbound efforts.

It’s helpful for those who are:

For anyone approaching those problems they should get a huge efficiency boost from not having to worry about troubleshooting and minimizing setup time.
